Georgia work requirements for SNAP and Medicaid
What the 80-hour rule means in Georgia, who runs it, and where to send your proof.
🛒 SNAP in Georgia
Called Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), run by Georgia Department of Human Services, Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS).
Adults 18–64 without a child under 14 at home need 80 hours a month of work, volunteering or training, or an exemption, to keep SNAP past 3 months in 3 years.
🩺 Medicaid in Georgia
Georgia has not fully expanded Medicaid, but some adults in Georgia Pathways to Coverage have a work rule starting July 1, 2023. See the note below.
Run by Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH); applications and compliance handled by DFCS.
📌 Non-expansion state, but Georgia Pathways to Coverage (1115 waiver, adults 19-64 up to 100% FPL) has required 80 hrs/month of qualifying activity since 2023-07-01; reporting moved to application + annual renewal 2025-10-01. Waiver extension runs through 2026-12-31; rules align with federal H.R. 1 requirements from 2027-01-01. SNAP: no ABAWD time-limit waiver in effect as of 2026-10-01 per USDA FNS; time limit applies statewide.
